Jeans are one of the few materials that become more beautiful with wear. Originally designed as robust work trousers, jeans are now a common item of everyday clothing all over the world. The so-called ‘used look’ is still decisive for their character. However, unlike in the past, this is no longer created naturally, but is produced artificially by elaborate processing such as stonewashing, distressing and cutting open the trousers before they are sold.

Inspired by the idea of imitating wear and tear, I tried to fake typical characteristics of jeans using various techniques. The research focussed on twill weave, washing and pleats.
