Noise

When a so-called noise appears in photographs, we usually refer to this as a technical error. Inspired by a black and white photograph by the artist Wolfgang Tillmans taken in the early taken in the early 80s, I first became aware of the aesthetics of grainy structure in photographs. I began to create collages from my own analogue black and white images, focusing on their gritty texture. By zooming in on individual photographs, I exaggerated and highlighted the noise.

The aesthetics of different shades of grey, their movement and almost flickering effect served as inspiration for this project. The mostly woven or knitted textiles, consist of different materials such as wire, nylon, wool and cotton.
